These are photos from militay personnal and those who evtertain them etc. I'm putting in six to start with. If you have any post them here. Red Grandy ©Stars and Stripes Frankfurt, Germany, June, 1967: Mom's interview with TV host Art Linkletter is going fine, but the kids don't seem to have plans to say anything, darndest or otherwise. Linkletter, who was taping a series of "House Party" shows on European bases, became famous for his entertaining interviews with children; they led to such books as "Kids Say the Darndest Things," which sold millions of copies. ©Stars and Stripes Berlin, February, 1947: Berliners have traditionally been protective of their parks and trees, but during the bitter winter of 1946-47, survival came ahead of aesthetics. Here, several residents of the city divide up some fresh firewood in an effort to avoid the fate of 170 people who had already perished due to the elements. Red Grandy ©Stars and Stripes Schweinfurt, Germany, August 12, 1976: Gen. Alexander M. Haig, Supreme Allied Commander, Europe, visits Training Area M, near Schweinfurt, Germany. Haig praised the combat-readiness of units preparing to take part in Autumn Forge maneuvers. B.S. Carmichael ©Stars and Stripes Iwo Jima, February 19, 1965: Former Marine Cpl. Rene Gagnon, left, and fellow Battle of Iwo Jima veteran Master Sgt. Andrew Zihar stand near the location on Mt. Suribachi where, on February 23, 1945, Gagnon and five other men were photographed raising the flag in what has become an iconic image of the U.S. Marine Corps. ©Stars and Stripes Clark Air Base, Philippines, February, 1973: Army Staff Sgt. Bobby L. Johnson, recently released after spending more than four years in a North Vietnamese POW Camp, salutes before getting on a plane at Clark Air Base for his flight home. Dennis Rogers ©Stars and Stripes Yokohama, Japan, January, 1989: A banner displayed at the Japan Bowl football game by U.S. Marines Jack Bejo and Harold Loving for the folks watching on TV back home localizes the traditional plea for spending money. Bejo, from West Virginia, and Loving, from Bradford, Va., are with 3rd Battalion, 6th Marines at Camp Fuji.

1966, Bob Hope Show with Phyllis Diller, Anita Bryant, Miss World, and others. The Bob Hope Show came to the Seabee built outdoor theater in Da Nang, Vietnam. SRB was one of the lucky ones that got front row seats. Sorry Ken, why do these stupid pictures post so large? ?

SRB - Hows the modification I did on it look?
Bob Hope was also at Di An on Cristmas day in 1966 also.
I was a perimeter guard that day on a bunker with a 30 cal. machine gun as well as my own M-16.

It looks great, Ken...Thanks so much. I wish I had MS office on my laptop and I could post more. I'll try and transfer them to my desk top so I can reduce their size and post some. In the mean time, here's one more South Vietnam, Quang Tri Providence, 1967. This was a picture I snapped of a helicopter coming in to the heliport next to our compound. (if you click on the photo, it will enlarge)

thanks for the re-size, Ken.
The helicopter is Sikorsky H-19. It was used mostly in Vietnam as a "wrecker" along with the CH-47 Chinook helicopter to haul damaged Huey's back to base camp for repairs.

This I believe they type of chopper that my b-i-l worked on. His team had to go in and set a perimeter and then the later or the next morning lift the downed chopper back to base. He took three bullets on one of his missions while evacting out the chopper and some other troops.

South Korea, January 8, 1969: An Honest John missile streaks away from its launcher and toward a target 13 miles away during testing of a portable computer system that enabled crews to send one of the weapons aloft in five minutes instead of the half-hour needed for human calculations. Four Honest Johns were launched, bringing the number tested on the peninsula by the 1st Battalion, 42nd Artillery, to 127. Three of the four scored direct hits.

Bastogne, Belgium, July, 1950: The American flag is raised for the first time over the new memorial to soldiers who died during the Battle of the Bulge in December, 1944. Dozens of veterans of the Bastogne battle were on hand, as was Maj. Gen. Anthony McAuliffe, who became famous for his one-word reply -- "Nuts!" -- to a German demand for his surrender.

Hill 327, Da Nang, South Vietnam, 1966. SRB, probably in the best shape of his life. This it at the door of our 10 man hooch. When we arrived on deployment, these were all tents and each tent group was responsible for building a hooch during our first few days in camp. Of course, this was after duty hours in your spare time...ha ha ...like we didn't have any spare time, you couldn't go anywhere anyway.

hey, thanks!!
I just remembered, my hut was H32 (shown on the hootch wall) H stood for Headquarters Company. Headquarters Company is the fleet sailors that are attached to the Seabee Battalion so it can function administratively. Seabees only have construction trades within their structure and need this support to be extracted from the fleet. I was a cook, hence a Headquarters member.
