Nathan was in Mosul Iraq in some sort of special weapons group and has killed many persons. When Nat left the military, he wasn't given any assistance in getting his head back together
I had nightmares for almost 30 years and quite sure he is going through the same. Seems to me, the system would require returning military personnel assistance before returning to civilian life

When a copter turns it blades and we hear that wop wop wop sound how do you react?
Where I did my tour of duty that meant wounded were coming in

We sat right next to the run way and the planes and choppers where constantly coming and going.
When we heard a lot of wop wop wop we new knew there were a lot of choppers coming in with the wounded and dead. The first day I got there one of units was out doing a sweep and walked into a trap and got nailed real good. The choppers came and went for hours.
Just as I was leaving on the last day there another unit had the same thing happen and as I was leaving I could many choppers that day.
A couple months after the TET offensive started. As it was there were precursors as the up coming TET. Our patrols were starting to take more fire when out. I personally think we should have realized that it was coming.
We had a small radio set up just across from where the choppers unloaded. I saw a lot of wounded come in there and body bags. I remember one poor guy they were trying to evacte out and they would take him to a chopper just to bring him back because of some mission to bring in more wounded was going on and they couldn't evacte him for hours until finally they got him on a flight to Saigon.
I will never the lousy treatment I got from my own country men when I got back. I guess I'm still a little bitter about that. I'm still an American and proud of my country all though at that time I wasn't very happy with her. And Philadelphia I still don't have any use for. We got there (they couldn't process out until Monday because we came back to late in the day and everybody was off duty) so we went into town to blow off steam. We got spit on and called baby killers and other names and the city of brotherly love was actually the city of brotherly sh**.
The nightmares have gotten less but they are still ever present.
And thank you UncleJoe I know you understand what I went through also.

When I returned to civilian life people wouldn't talk to me--hair too short and my attitude was wrong

I got cold reception from friends when I got home. I can't even remember who they were that treated me like that. After all this time I don't want to remember.
Many years after I was back I ran across someone that I went to school with and we always got along not really friends however he treated me quite well and asked how things where. I never expected that reaction from him but received a better reception form him than anyone else.

$1250 a day is good money. And tax free sounds good to me.
I just hope that the killing doesn't ruin him psychologically.
